Amazon MGM Studios has chosen Veena Sud as the showrunner for the upcoming series based on “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” novels by Stieg Larsson, according to an exclusive report from Variety. The series will be set in the world of the Millennium novels.

Variety previously reported the development of the series in May 2020, but at that time, no showrunner had been attached. While the plot details are being kept under wraps, it was initially reported as a standalone story focusing on the character Lisbeth Salander. The series will be produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Left Bank Pictures, with Sony Pictures Television as its base.
Veena Sud has a background in dark crime and mystery dramas, having developed the series “The Killing” based on the Danish series “Forbrydelsen”, where she served as executive producer and showrunner. The show aired on AMC for three seasons, with the fourth season streaming on Netflix. Sud’s work on “The Killing” earned her a Golden Globe nomination and six Emmy nominations in 2011.
She also created and executive produced the Netflix series “Seven Seconds” and directed the Blumhouse film “The Lie” and the Quibi film/series hybrid “The Stranger.” Sud’s other credits include working as a writer, executive producer, and showrunner on the CBS police procedural “Cold Case.”
The Millennium book series features the primary characters Lisbeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist. Stieg Larsson completed the first three books before his death in 2004, and his work was continued by David Lagercrantz and Karin Smirnoff. The books have collectively sold over 100 million copies worldwide and have been adapted into Swedish and American film versions.
