Speculation surrounding a potential remaster of Metal Gear Solid 4 for the upcoming Metal Gear Solid Master Collection has been fueled by recent leaks. A Reddit user named Timo653 shared images of code supposedly extracted from the collection’s launcher, suggesting that Metal Gear Solid 4, Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker, and even Metal Gear Solid 5 may be included in the future.
Further investigation by IGN has confirmed the authenticity of these references within the code.
This discovery has ignited excitement among fans, particularly due to the fact that Metal Gear Solid 4 is only playable on the now-defunct PlayStation 3. Launched in 2008, Metal Gear Solid 4 served as the conclusion to Solid Snake’s story while also heavily tying into the narrative of Big Boss. It holds a special place in the hearts of both fans and critics, with IGN’s 10/10 review praising its depth, complexity, and technical prowess, deeming it one of the greatest games of all time.
Originally marketed as the final installment in the series, Metal Gear Solid 4 was followed by the release of Metal Gear Solid 5, surprising fans with another chapter.
The recent leak adds to the earlier discovery of Metal Gear Solid 4, Peace Walker, and Metal Gear Solid 5 placeholders on the official website. IGN has previously reported that the lineup for Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 is accurate.
Whenever Metal Gear Solid Vol. 2 is eventually released, it is hoped that it will surpass the performance of Volume 1, which faced criticism for the PC version’s limitation to 720p despite being advertised as 1080p output. Additionally, the Switch version of the collection does not include all games on the cartridge, requiring players to download Metal Gear Solid 1, 2, and 3.
