2023 U.S. OPEN SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS
Get ready because on the second night of finals at the 2023 U.S. Open, the women’s and men’s 400 free, 200 IM, and 50 free will be in the spotlight! It all begins with a showdown between top contenders Katie Ledecky and Summer McIntosh in the 400 free. In last year’s U.S. Open, these two stars were separated by a mere 0.07 seconds, with Ledecky emerging victorious. The men’s side sees Kieran Smith as the top seed, followed by Drew Kibler and Luca Urlando. Urlando is causing a stir after posting a 3:51.45 time in prelims, his second-fastest performance ever!
The women’s 200 IM will showcase defending world champion Kate Douglass as the top seed, clocking an impressive 2:10.03 in the morning. She will face her UVA training partner Alex Walsh, along with other fierce rivals such as Torri Huske and Regan Smith. Meanwhile, Trenton Julian and Hubert Kos will be the top two seeds for the men’s 200 IM, after being separated by just 0.1 in the heats.
In the women’s 50 free, Abbey Weitzeil, Douglass, and Gretchen Walsh are in for a tight battle after posting competitive times in prelims. And don’t miss top seed Quintin McCarty as he looks to back up his breakout 21.94 personal best in the men’s 50 free. Oh, and watch out – Caeleb Dressel will be in the ‘B’ final after swimming his fastest 50 free in 19 months during prelims! Catch the live stream courtesy of USA Swimming here:
