Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has made headlines since his takeover of Twitter, which he later rebranded as X. The visionary behind SpaceX and Tesla regularly engages with users on the microblogging platform, captivating audiences worldwide. In a recent development, Musk expressed his willingness to donate $1 billion to Wikipedia if the online encyclopedia changed its name. “I will give them a billion dollars if they change their name to Dickipedia,” he stated, emphasizing the need for accuracy.
When a user supported the proposed name change, Musk set another condition. “@Wikipedia, Do it! You can always change it back after you collect,” suggested the user. Musk responded, “One year minimum. I mean, I’m not a fool lol.”
In another tweet, Musk shared a screenshot of Wikipedia’s homepage, which featured phrases like “Wikipedia is not for sale” and “a personal appeal from Jimmy Wales.” Musk questioned the Wikimedia Foundation’s fundraising activities, wondering why they require significant funds when the entirety of Wikipedia’s text can fit on a phone. He humorously pondered, “So, what’s the money for? Inquiring minds want to know…”

In a subsequent post, Musk humorously requested the addition of a cow and a poop emoji to his Wikipedia page.
Since its posting, the tweet has garnered 9.9 million views and over a hundred thousand likes.
“They’re always asking for donations, so be careful. They might come to collect,” warned a user.
“Sounds like a cage match challenge,” remarked another person.
A third person suggested, “Buy it and put AI in charge of autonomously updating it.”
“Typical rich guy… Only willing to donate if the institution names itself after him!” commented a user.
Another individual humorously stated, “Looking at the replies, I just can’t imagine these people are living on the same earth as me lmao.”
In May of this year, Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales criticized Musk for censoring critics of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Turkey, just before the country’s highly contested presidential election. Wales called out Musk for sacrificing free speech by complying with Turkey’s demands to restrict content. In response, Wales highlighted Wikipedia’s commitment to protecting freedom of expression and mentioned their successful battle in the Turkish Supreme Court.
Wikipedia was blocked in Turkey for over two years due to a telecommunications watchdog’s decision to ban access to sites deemed obscene or threats to national security.
