Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter, Tesla, and SpaceX, recently shared his divisive views on transgender people. In a series of tweets, Musk promoted a transphobic “documentary” by far-right conservative Matt Walsh, agreed that medical providers who offer care to transgender children should be sent to prison, and supported a movement to exclude trans people from the LGBTQ community. Despite boasting about his company’s high score for LGBTQ equality in a survey on workplace inclusivity, Musk made it clear that he does not support the whole acronym. The film “What Is A Woman?” questions the existence of transgender people and is particularly critical of the idea that children can be transgender. Although many major medical groups support gender-affirming healthcare for children, Musk expressed a desire to criminalize making severe, irreversible changes to minors. Musk’s comments have sparked controversy and divided public opinion.
