Petrol and diesel drivers have been urged to press one simple button while waiting in traffic to prevent toxic gases from entering the cabin.
Experts emphasize that motorists should activate their air recirculation when stationary to avoid inhaling exhaust fumes.
According to YouTube expert, LearnCar01, the recirculation button is vital and should be utilized whenever possible.
The specialist warns that many road users are still unaware of how to properly use the air functions in their vehicles, making this a lesser-known hack.
The simple button can typically be found on the main display of the vehicle, just behind the gearstick.

The Health and Safety Executive has warned that vehicle exhaust fumes pose a “risk to health” if inhaled. These gases can also cause eye and respiratory tract irritation.
LearnCar01 said, “Many people have been driving a car for over 10 years and they still don’t know how to use the car’s internal and external cycling function.”
They added, “When you encounter a traffic jam, turn on the air conditioner and activate the internal circulation to prevent outside exhaust gas from entering the vehicle.”
The recirculation button blocks outside air from entering the vehicle and instead circulates the air already inside the cabin.
According to Ken Brown Motors, a car dealership brand, following this tip can reduce the entry of toxic pollutants into a vehicle by approximately 20 percent.
They added, “Whenever you’re stuck in traffic (whether it’s summer or winter), make sure to use the recirculation function.
“If you’re drawing in air from outside, then you’re also bringing in all the pollutants and carbon monoxide from the traffic.”
Hayfever sufferers can also utilize the recirculation button to prevent pollen from entering the car. Additionally, it will block strong outdoor odors from entering the vehicle, which could be unpleasant.
LearnCar01 cautions that the recirculation function can also be utilized during hot weather.
They added, “In the summer, after the car has been exposed to the sun, there may be an unpleasant smell inside. Turn on the air conditioner and activate the external circulation for 10 minutes first. Then switch to internal circulation to eliminate the odor.”
However, Ken Brown Motors warns that some newer cars do not have an air recirculation button at all.
They emphasize that this is because newer vehicles often have sensors that can monitor moisture levels and automatically circulate the air.
