Dundee Under Fire: Riot Police Respond as 50 Youth Gang Ignites Chaos

Riot police in Dundee were called to a disturbance involving approximately 50 youths who were setting fires in wheelie bins and vandalizing an empty house. The incident took place in the Kirkton district of the city, specifically in the Beauly Avenue and Beauly Square area, at around 7:45 pm.

Police are currently conducting inquiries to identify all individuals involved in the incident. It’s worth noting that this same area witnessed a night of riots on October 31st of last year, with roads being blocked by bonfires.

Expressing his frustration, Councillor John Alexander, the leader of Dundee City Council, described those responsible as “morons.” Speaking on BBC Radio’s Good Morning Scotland, he stated, “As a parent, seeing the ages of some of these young people, I’m appalled. I would definitely be asking my own children questions if they came home smelling of smoke yesterday. This situation not only angers me, but it also saddens me because it does not reflect the wider community.”

Mr. Alexander confirmed that the extent of the damage this year was more concentrated than during last year’s disturbance. He mentioned that the cleanup process in Kirkton has begun, revealing that wheelie bins were damaged by fire and stones were thrown at the empty property.
