Robert Kime, a renowned interior designer, is set to have his personal collection auctioned at Dreweatts. The collection, consisting of over 900 objects valued at £40 to £150,000, is expected to generate over £1.5 million in total. The auction will take place over three days, with items from Kime’s London townhouse apartment, Provence property, and remaining pieces being sold separately. Kime, who referred to himself as an “assembler,” rather than an interior designer, had a successful career and worked on projects for notable clients such as King Charles III. His work is characterized by its comfortable and simple design, featuring beautifully designed objects sourced from around the world. The auction includes a range of items from 17th-century chairs to 20th-century paintings, as well as rare Ottoman rugs and antique fabrics. Of particular note is a watercolour by British artist Eric Ravilious with a high estimate of £150,000. Kime’s son, Tom Kime, fondly recalls the family’s shared love of Kime’s design pieces and highlights the marble-topped table from Kime’s property in La Gonette as a cherished item. Kime is known for his quintessentially English, country-house style, blended with elements from his travels, resulting in a unique and eclectic collection. Interior designer and antiques dealer Max Rollitt describes Kime’s collection as a “phenomenal” array of beautiful things, highlighting the mix of Bloomsbury Group works, Turkish pottery, and Anatolian rugs. The auction presents a rare opportunity for buyers to acquire these one-of-a-kind pieces and create their own effortlessly elegant designs.
