BROOKLYN, Ohio— Shocking Incident: Ohio Coach Resigns Following Use of Racist and Antisemitic Language during Football Game
In a disturbing turn of events, coach Tim McFarland of Brooklyn High School in Ohio resigned after his team used offensive language, including the term “Nazi,” during a recent game against Beachwood High School, a predominantly Jewish community in Cleveland.
The deplorable language was finally halted in the second half of the game after Beachwood threatened to remove its players from the field. However, some Brooklyn players continued to target Beachwood players with racial slurs during the game.
Coach McFarland submitted his resignation on Monday morning, expressing deep regret for what occurred. The school district condemned the “hurtful and harmful speech” and emphasized that such behavior will not be tolerated.
The school district has reached out to the Anti-Defamation League of Ohio for support and guidance in addressing this incident and preventing future occurrences.
“This is not the first time Beachwood student-athletes have faced antisemitic and racist speech,” said Beachwood Schools Superintendent Robert Hardis. “We always hope it will be the last.”
No information regarding disciplinary action against the players involved has been provided.
According to a study by Tel Aviv University’s Center for the Study of Contemporary European Jewry and the Anti-Defamation League, antisemitism in the United States has seen a significant rise in recent years, with no signs of abating. From 2021 to 2022, antisemitic incidents increased by 35%.
