Delia Smith loses appetite for Labour as ‘bland’ Keir Starmer puts voters off

He is being investigated by the parliamentary commissioner for standards over multiple failures to register on time gifts of Premier League football tickets and book royalties.

Shadow cabinet ministers have said that the Labour leader is “boring voters to death”, The Times reported, while a separate poll revealed that many voters view him as “boring” and “bland”.

‘Our politics is past its sell-by date’

Discussing her new book and the need for “new ideas” in politics with journalist Peter Stanford, Smith said that “our politics is past its sell-by date”.

“We need new politics,” she said. “We need collaborative leadership…  It has to be bottom-up, because what we’re all living with at the moment is top-down, and that isn’t working at all.

“We’ve got a few people who are making decisions on our behalf that are appalling, appalling, and we can do nothing about it.”

The joint majority shareholder of Norwich City football club said that “we haven’t got the right leaders making the right decisions” about issues such as climate change and the refugee crisis.

“But together, in unity with one another, we can do anything,” she added.

Smith has swapped cooking for spirituality in her new book, You Matter: The Human Solution, and has previously said that “workers of the world” should be in charge instead of a “few at the top”.

She has argued that this new politics should avoid ideological distinction, saying: “I would like to see our country get rid of ‘Left’, get rid of ‘Right’ and find people who can collaborate together and care about how to make it work.”
