Decline in COVID Patients Being Observed at California Hospitals

The number of COVID-positive patients in California hospitals continues to decrease, reaching 752, which is 29 fewer than the previous day, as stated in the latest figures provided by the state.

Out of those patients, 89 are currently receiving intensive care treatment. This data is accurate up until June 24, according to the California Department of Public Health.

On the other hand, during their most recent weekly update, Los Angeles County officials reported 1,794 new cases of COVID-19 and an additional 28 deaths related to the virus.

These numbers are for the week ending on June 26, and they bring the county’s total number of infections to 3,755,601 since the beginning of the pandemic in early 2020, with a total of 36,510 COVID-related deaths, as reported by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

In comparison, the previous week (ending June 19) saw a report of 1,817 infections and 25 COVID-related deaths.

Health officials have emphasized that the majority of individuals who pass away due to COVID-19 are elderly or have underlying health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, or hypertension.

The county’s seven-day average test positivity rate currently stands at 5.22%, a slight decrease from the previous week’s rate of 5.36%. However, it is notably higher than the 3.95% rate observed in May.

In recent months, there has been a gradual decline in hospitalizations, cases, and deaths related to the virus.

While the federal emergency declarations in response to the COVID-19 pandemic have come to an end, it is important to note that COVID-19 remains one of the leading causes of death in Los Angeles County. Ongoing efforts to reduce severe illness through easily accessible vaccinations, testing, and treatment are still necessary, according to the county health department.
