The country music genre is making a strong comeback on the Hot 100 chart.
For the first time in 42 years, country music stars have secured the top two positions on this prestigious music list.
Morgan Wallen’s hit song “Last Night” continues to hold the number one spot, closely followed by Luke Combs’ rendition of Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car”.
It’s been over four decades since country musicians dominated the all-genre chart back in 1981 when Eddie Rabbitt’s “I Love a Rainy Night” and Dolly Parton’s “9 to 5” held the top two positions.
Wallen’s “Last Night” has maintained its stronghold on the Hot 100 chart, marking its 12th consecutive week at number one. Combs’ cover of “Fast Car” has climbed up a spot, securing the number two position.
“Fast Car” by Combs received 51.3 million radio impressions and 21.2 million streams this week, according to Billboard.
Combs has a chance to surpass Wallen for the top spot, but it might take some time. “Last Night” accumulated 72.2 million radio impressions and 29.8 million streams this week, as reported by Billboard.
In addition to their success on the music charts, both artists have experienced significant milestones in their personal lives this year. Combs and his wife Nicole Hocking are expecting their second child in September, as confirmed on the singer’s Instagram page.
