Authorities are currently on the lookout for multiple suspects involved in a shooting incident with two California Highway Patrol officers during a traffic stop in the Compton area. This incident occurred around 11:20 p.m. on Monday when the officers noticed a white Kia Optima speeding east on Alondra Boulevard near Main Street, according to the CHP.
The officers successfully pulled over the Kia near Alondra Boulevard and Maple Avenue. However, during the traffic stop, the Kia allegedly accelerated towards the officers, prompting them to engage in an officer-involved shooting, as confirmed by a CHP officer. “While the suspect was accelerating the Kia towards the officers, one of the officers fell on his back, causing (an) officer-involved shooting. Both officers fired their weapons multiple times at the Kia, and then the Kia fled eastbound on Alondra Boulevard from Maple Avenue,” the officer said. The officers then pursued the suspect vehicle but lost sight of it near Alondra and Wilmington Avenue.
At approximately 11:45 p.m., the Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies discovered the abandoned Kia on Cypress Avenue west of Aprilla Avenue. The vehicle had several bullet holes in its windshield, according to reports from the CHP and KABC.
As a result of the investigation and search, Avalon Boulevard was temporarily closed in both directions. Fortunately, no officers were injured during the incident.
