Chick-fil-A coming to North Greenbush

NORTH GREENBUSH — Attention Chick-fil-A fans in Rensselaer County: Your prayers have finally been answered.

The chain known for its popular chicken nuggets and waffle fries plans to build a restaurant on a busy commercial strip that links Troy to East Greenbush.

A permit has been pulled for Chick-fil-A to be built at 502 N. Greenbush Road, which is also known as Route 4. The location, which will include a drive-thru, will be accessible off newly renovated Route 4.

While construction hasn’t begun, the restaurant is expected to open sometime in late fall or winter. Another location is also in development in Clifton Park, near the entrance of Clifton Park Center.

Michael Miner, North Greenbush building coordinator, said there have been talks about coordinating a joint grand opening on the same day for both locations, though nothing has yet been confirmed.

“We know it’s going to generate some traffic, but we hope that when Chick-fil-A establishes a few more locations things will settle down,” Miner said. “It will definitely draw in a lot of people.”

He emphasized that vehicular and pedestrian improvements made to Route 4 will help traffic flow.

The two locations will join more than 2,600 Chick-fil-A’s in the U.S., according to the restaurant’s website. Miner added that the Georgia-based franchise has been looking at other areas in the Capital Region to set up shop.

The only current Chick-fil-A in the region is located at the Albany International Airport and requires a trip through security to enter. Some die-hard fans have been known to go through that process or drive to the second-closest location, in Chicopee, Mass.

To some, its most popular entree, bite-sized chicken nuggets, and its signature rich and tangy Chick-fil-A sauce is worth the distance. Other popular menu items include waffle potato fries, fried chicken sandwiches and milkshakes.
