Carlos Sainz Victorious in First-Ever Netflix Cup and Breaks the Trophy in Celebration

Ferrari Formula One driver Carlos Sainz faced a shocking turn of events when he participated in Netflix’s first live sporting event and lost hold of the inaugural “Netflix Cup.” The event brought together professional athletes from different sports to compete in a unique and entertaining golf tournament at Wynn Golf Club in Las Vegas, where Sainz partnered with two-time PGA Championship winner, Justin Thomas, to take on their competitors.

After battling it out with Alpine driver Pierre Gasly and Tony Finau in a closest-to-the-pin challenge, Sainz and Thomas emerged victorious, only to witness the unexpected moment when the “Netflix Cup” slipped out of Sainz’s hands and shattered. This incident led to a comical and surprising turn of events as Sainz watched in disbelief while Finau laughed and picked up the broken pieces of the trophy.

Bringing together elements of Netflix’s popular sporting docuseries, “Drive to Survive” and “Full Swing,” the event was hosted by PGA pro Joel Dahmen, comedian Bert Kreischer, sportscaster Kay Adams, and former NFL star Marshawn Lynch. The tournament included creative golf challenges inspired by Netflix shows, as well as a charitable initiative offered by the PGA Tour.

As the event was staged ahead of the inaugural Las Vegas F1 Grand Prix, it featured racing elements, with teams competing to finish a golf hole as fast as possible, regardless of strokes. Additionally, a special “Squid Game” challenge added an extra layer of excitement to the competition.

Despite the anticipation for the Las Vegas F1 Grand Prix, ticket prices have dropped due to Red Bull’s Max Verstappen securing his third successive driver’s championship at the Qatar Grand Prix. Nonetheless, the event is expected to draw over 100,000 attendees and promises to be the “single largest special event in Las Vegas history.”
