Carlos Alcaraz Energized for Epic Showdown with Daniil Medvedev following Stunning Victory over Alexander Zverev at US Open

Carlos Alcaraz is on the verge of defending his US Open title, having triumphed over Alexander Zverev 6-3 6-2 6-4 in the quarter-final.

The fierce battle took place in New York on Wednesday night, with the 20-year-old Spanish prodigy outshining the world No. 12.

In this tournament, Alcaraz, who is also the Wimbledon champion, has only dropped a single set. His remarkable performance continues to solidify his status as one of the greatest players of our time.

If he defeats Daniil Medvedev in the semi-finals, he could potentially face off against Novak Djokovic once again for the ultimate showdown.

When asked about the possibility of another Djokovic encounter, Alcaraz stated, “It’s now within reach compared to the beginning of the tournament. We’re just one match away from that potential final. It would be amazing… but both of us have incredibly tough semi-finals. So let’s wait and see. Undoubtedly, both of us are determined to reach that potential final.”

Zverev had two opportunities to break in the first set, but failed to capitalize and lost his own serve in the following game.

After the second set, Zverev took a medical timeout and later revealed that he was struggling with an injury.

“During the second set, I felt some discomfort in my hamstring glute, on the left side,” he explained.

“I couldn’t generate power in my serve anymore. My serve speed significantly decreased compared to the previous days. Especially against him, I needed a strong serving performance, otherwise it would have been extremely challenging.

“After the first set, my biggest weapon was essentially neutralized, and it’s difficult to compete without it.”

Zverev struggled to respond to Alcaraz’s explosive returns and groundstrokes – perhaps affected by the length of his previous intense match against Jannik Sinner in the fourth round.

Alcaraz saved all five break points he faced and converted all four opportunities on Zverev’s serve.

“I feel extremely comfortable playing on this court, here in New York. I am showcasing my peak performance here,” said Alcaraz.

“Last year was incredibly tough, as it took me five sets to reach the final.

“This time, I’ve only played one match that went to four sets. Physically, I feel amazing and I’m prepared to engage in a fierce battle with Medvedev in the semi-finals.”

Alcaraz currently leads the head-to-head record against Medvedev by 2-1 and has emerged victorious in both of their encounters this year, winning in straight sets.

“In my previous matches against Daniil, I executed a flawless tactical game,” revealed Alcaraz.

“I successfully implemented the strategies required to counter his style of play. Therefore, I believe my game is well-suited to face opponents like Daniil.

“So I will strive to replicate the same game plan that led to my victories in Indian Wells and Wimbledon, aiming for the win and hoping to deliver the same high level of performance.”
