Tragic Homicide Incident Claims the Life of a Marine at Camp Lejeune; Second Marine Detained on Suspicion
CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. — A tragic and shocking incident unfolded at Camp Lejeune, as the life of a brave Marine was cut short due to a horrific homicide. In connection with this heartbreaking event, another Marine is currently held under suspicion, pending further investigation.
This devastating incident occurred late Wednesday evening in one of the barracks rooms located within the sprawling Camp Lejeune base in North Carolina. Following the incident, authorities promptly took custody of the Marine at approximately 10:15 p.m., according to an official statement released by the base.
The statement characterized the nature of the death as a homicide, with the detained Marine being considered a prime suspect. However, no specific information regarding the cause of death or other significant details have been revealed at this time.
Camp Lejeune spans an expansive area of about 240 square miles (621 square kilometers) and serves as the home to the II Marine Expeditionary Force. In a previous unfortunate incident back in 2021, a Marine was accidentally shot and wounded within one of the base’s barracks.
