Hurricane Otis hit southern Mexico’s Pacific coast on Wednesday as a dangerous Category 5 storm, causing significant concern. The National Hurricane Center issued warnings of “catastrophic damage” around Acapulco. Videos posted online showed the storm’s impact, with strong winds and heavy rain lashing the popular beach resort city.
Mexico’s national civil protection agency communicated via tweet that parts of Guerrero state were already experiencing power outages as the storm made landfall. They advised residents to stay calm, seek shelter, and wait for confirmation from authorities that the danger had passed. The agency also cautioned people to avoid windows, disconnect electrical devices, refrain from contact with water and metallic objects
