In a call to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, President Biden urged Americans to prioritize unity over politics during the holiday and beyond.
“On this Thanksgiving, Al, we have to come together,” emphasized the President to NBC’s Al Roker. “We can have different political views, but we have one view. The one view is that we’re the finest, greatest nation in the world. We should focus on that.”
He continued, “We should focus on dealing with our problems and being together and stop the rancor. We have to bring the nation together and treat each other with a little bit of decency, and I think that’s where the vast majority of the American people are.”
Biden and first lady Jill Biden made the call from their vacation in Nantucket, Mass., expressing gratitude to service members for their sacrifices.
“We have to remind ourselves how blessed we are to live in the greatest nation on the face of the earth,” Biden said. “Today is about coming together, giving thanks for this country we call home.”
He also acknowledged the efforts of firefighters, police officers, and first responders and spoke with a firefighter at the Nantucket Fire Department.
Reporters questioned the President about the potential short-term truce in the Israel-Hamas conflict, to which Biden expressed cautious optimism and declined further comments until the deal was finalized. The truce is expected to result in the release of 50 hostages, including three Americans.
