President expressed his heartfelt condolences on Saturday for the 18 people who lost their lives in the tragic mass shootings that occurred in Maine. Additionally, officials provided new information regarding the ongoing investigation, including details about a note left behind by the suspected gunman, who was discovered deceased late Friday.
Maine Public Safety Commissioner Michael Sauschuck revealed that he believes the 40-year-old Army reservist, who is suspected of carrying out the shootings on Wednesday, was familiar with both the Just-In-Time Recreation bowling alley, where seven individuals were killed, and Schemengees Bar & Grille, where eight men lost their lives—both located in Lewiston. Three additional victims died in local hospitals.
During a search of a residence connected to the suspected shooter, officials discovered a paper note on Thursday. The note, which appeared to be addressed to a loved one, contained passcodes for a phone and bank account.
In a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), President Joe Biden expressed his sorrow for the devastating two days experienced by the families affected by the gun violence in Maine. He stated, “At least eighteen souls brutally slain and more injured, and scores of family and friends praying and experiencing trauma no one ever wants to imagine. We’re grateful that Lewiston and surrounding communities are now safe. I thank the brave law enforcement officers who worked around the clock to find this suspect.”
