Inland Empire youngsters with a passion for aviation and a vision for their future are invited to attend a captivating two-day symposium next week at San Bernardino International Airport. This unique event will feature airline recruiters and industry professionals who will provide insights on lucrative careers in commercial flying, technical positions, and other related opportunities that are currently in high demand.
The symposium, scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday and Monday, is open to students from schools in the Riverside metropolitan area and surrounding regions. It will take place in the airport terminal complex located at 275 N. Leland Norton Way.
Shades of Blue, a non-profit organization based in Castle Rock, Colorado, will be hosting this event as part of a nationwide series of symposiums. Their aim is to bridge the gap between the current and future shortage of aviation professionals by attracting and nurturing qualified candidates for the airline industry.
According to the non-profit organization, the airline industry is projected to face a worldwide shortage of aviation professionals in the next 25 years. To mitigate this shortage, airlines will need to hire an average of 14,500 new pilots internationally every year until 2030. However, currently, America only produces between 5,000 and 7,000 pilots annually.
The primary goal of Shades of Blue is to address both present and future employee shortages in the airline industry, thereby establishing a sustainable supply of qualified candidates into the employee pipeline.
The symposium will feature esteemed speakers from prominent organizations such as Delta Airlines, Southwest Airlines, United Airlines, Los Angeles World Airports, Texas Instruments, and the Barboza Space Center.
In addition to engaging talks, the event will also provide attendees with the opportunity to experience flight simulators, as well as witness drone and robotic demonstrations.
For individuals residing in Riverside County, there are various flight schools and clubs located at Corona, French Valley, Hemet-Ryan, and Riverside airports.
Moreover, Cal Baptist University in Riverside houses a Department of Aviation Science that offers comprehensive pilot training programs. The university also maintains a flight operations center at Riverside Municipal Airport, where a retired Boeing 727 is showcased.
