He acknowledged that his records would undergo Atmos mixing, and if he didn’t learn how to do it himself, someone else would take control. Wood’s maiden Atmos mix was for Liz Phair’s “Soberish,” an album he had produced. He also realized the financial benefits that accompanies mastering this skill.
While contemporary pop and hip-hop artists swiftly embraced the format for their new releases, convincing veteran rock acts to enter the Atmos arena proved to be more challenging. Schusser noted that these artists had numerous questions during the initial six months. Nonetheless, certain groups such as the Doors wholeheartedly embraced the format, revamping their entire catalog in Atmos. Others, like Fleetwood Mac, adopted a more cautious approach, tackling one album at a time. Nevertheless, legacy artists increasingly contribute to the growing number of Atmos mixes, with recent releases including iconic albums like Pink Floyd’s “The Dark Side of the Moon” and the Beach Boys’ “Pet Sounds.”
