Alyssa Valdez Embraces a Fresh Start as She Makes a Comeback After Injury Struggles

Creamline volleyball player Alyssa Valdez is back in action after recovering from a right knee injury that sidelined her for six months. Valdez made her return in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) where she helped her team, the Cool Smashers, secure a 25-22, 25-22, 25-17 victory against the Chery Tiggo Crossovers in the 2023 PVL Invitational Conference. Despite being excited about playing again, Valdez is taking her time to regain her old form.

Valdez expressed her gratitude for the win and praised her teammates for stepping up their game. She also thanked coach Sherwin for giving her the opportunity to play. Valdez acknowledged that it had been a while since she last played a full game and emphasized the challenge of recovering mentally and physically from her injury. She mentioned the importance of trusting the recovery process and taking care of her body. Valdez looks forward to getting back into the swing of things and having smooth movement and fluidity with her teammates.

Although Valdez only scored three points in the match, she showcased her steady floor defense with 10 out of 16 successful digs. She admitted that it has been the longest break from volleyball in her life and acknowledged the nerves and excitement she felt during her return. Valdez hopes to approach each game with a rookie mentality, being herself and enjoying the match while also supporting her teammates.

Meanwhile, Creamline coach Sherwin Meneses revealed that they had planned to start Valdez and let her play the entire game. He mentioned that Valdez had already recovered before the SEA Games and had been training with the team.

Valdez also praised the rookies of Chery Tiggo, particularly Eya Laure, for their impressive performance. She acknowledged the talent and effort of the newcomers and looked forward to more entertaining games in the future.

Valdez’s return to the court coincides with her upcoming 30th birthday, as Creamline aims for their second win in Pool A against the Gerflor Defenders.
