- Air Canada grounds pilot over “unacceptable” social media posts, reports CTV News.
- A nonprofit organization captures screenshots of the pilot’s alleged posts and publishes them on X.
- One screenshot shows the pilot holding a sign that reads, “Israel Hitler would be proud of you.”
Air Canada took immediate action on Monday after discovering “unacceptable” social media posts by one of its pilots, as reported by CTV News.
The pilot in question, Mostafa Ezzo, allegedly shared protest photos on his Instagram stories over the weekend. These images were reportedly taken during a protest in Montreal on Sunday, one day after the escalation of the conflict between Palestinian militant group Hamas and Israel.
Screenshots of Ezzo’s posts, captured and shared on X (formerly known as Twitter) by the nonprofit organization StopAntisemitism, displayed him holding a sign stating, “Israel Hitler would be proud of you.”
Additional screenshots revealed Ezzo with a sign depicting someone discarding Israel’s flag into a trash bin, accompanied by the message, “Keep the world clean.”
Ezzo has since deleted his social media accounts and could not be reached for comment.
While Air Canada has not responded to Insider’s request for comment, the airline confirmed in an X post that Ezzo was grounded on Monday.
The post reads, “We are aware of the unacceptable posts made by an Air Canada pilot. We take this matter very seriously, and he was taken out of service on Mon, Oct. 9. We firmly denounce violence in all forms.”
A spokesperson from the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) Canada, the union representing Air Canada pilots, acknowledged Ezzo’s grounding in a statement on Wednesday. The statement expressed sadness over the events in the Middle East and condemned violence and hatred, emphasizing the expectation that all members abide by ethical standards.
According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the death toll since the start of the recent violence has exceeded 1,800 people. This figure includes data from the Palestinian Ministry of Health and Israeli officials. The organization’s data also shows that thousands have been injured, dozens have been kidnapped, and over 260,000 people have been displaced along the Gaza Strip.
The conflict began early Saturday morning when Hamas launched an unprecedented attack on Israel using paragliders, boats, and motor vehicles. In response, Israel declared a “state of war” on Sunday.
On Monday, Israel’s defense minister Yoav Gallant announced a “complete siege” on Gaza, resulting in residents being deprived of access to food, fuel, and electricity.
