Actor Jay Johnston from ‘Bob’s Burgers’ accused of involvement in Jan. 6 Riot, apprehended

Jay Johnston, a renowned actor known for his roles in popular television shows such as “Mr. Show,” “Bob’s Burgers,” and “Arrested Development,” has been arrested in Los Angeles on Wednesday for his alleged involvement in the attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. This information comes from a recently released arrest warrant.

Johnston is facing four charges, including entering a restricted building and civil disorder. He had been under suspicion for over two years, with social media users even noting his resemblance to an individual in photo 247 released by the FBI following the attack.

In December 2021, The Daily Beast reported that Johnston had admitted to being present at the Jan. 6 protest, citing sources from the set of a film he was working on. The article also mentioned that Johnston had been banned from “Bob’s Burgers,” where he voiced the character Jimmy Pesto Sr.

Prosecutors filed the necessary paperwork to take Johnston into custody on Monday, and it was unsealed by a judge following his arrest. According to investigators, Johnston was seen pushing against police with a stolen police shield at a tunnel entrance to the Capitol and providing aid to other rioters by rinsing out their eyes with bottled water. Other rioters had also brought chemical irritants like bear spray, which they used against police officers.

The actor was allegedly part of a group of protesters known as the “shield wall,” who used plastic shields to confront law enforcement in the tunnel.

Aside from his involvement in the Capitol attack, Johnston has had a successful acting career. He appeared in numerous episodes of “Mr. Show,” a popular sketch-comedy show from the 1990s, and had roles in “Arrested Development” as Officer Taylor and “Better Call Saul” as Don Wachtell, the former Mesa Verde Bank president.

Overall, this incident involving Jay Johnston highlights the potential consequences individuals may face for their actions during the Capitol attack, regardless of their professional success in the entertainment industry.
