A Sneak Peek into Sunday Shows: Ukraine Conflict Reaches 500 Days; Biden Approves Cluster Munitions Shipment

This weekend, the Sunday morning talk shows are expected to focus on President Biden’s decision to send cluster munitions to Ukraine and the country’s ongoing counteroffensive as the war in Ukraine reaches its 500th day.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will appear on ABC’s “This Week” for a sit-down interview, marking the milestone with an address from Snake Island in the Black Sea. The island was initially captured by Russian warships on the first day of the war but later retaken by Ukrainian forces in July of last year.

Zelensky expressed his gratitude to the soldiers who fought for and liberated the island, emphasizing that it symbolizes Ukraine’s determination to regain all its territory.

Meanwhile, the Biden administration’s decision to provide Ukraine with cluster munitions has drawn controversy. Cluster munitions, which have the potential to become explosive hazards for civilians if not detonated, are banned by a treaty signed by over 100 countries but not by the U.S., Ukraine, or Russia.

President Biden, in an interview with CNN, acknowledged the difficulty of the decision but emphasized the need to support Ukraine’s efforts to defend against Russian aggression. The White House National Security Council spokesman, John Kirby, also noted that Ukraine is running low on ammunition during its counteroffensive, making the use of artillery critical.

Ukraine’s ambassador to the U.S., Oksana Markarova, expressed gratitude for the Biden administration’s decision, highlighting the importance of having the necessary capabilities to liberate territories.

In addition to Ukraine-related discussions, “Fox News Sunday” will feature Senators John Barrasso and Tim Kaine discussing the upcoming NATO summit in Lithuania.
