Paul Rudd Battles Supernatural Forces in New York City

Get ready to hum the iconic theme song, because the Ghostbusters are making a comeback!

Sony has just unveiled the trailer for “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” the highly anticipated sequel to 2021’s “Ghostbusters: Afterlife.”

While “Afterlife” took the ghostbusting action to rural Oklahoma, the franchise’s upcoming fifth film brings it back to its roots in New York City. The teaser for “Frozen Empire” showcases an idyllic summer in NYC turning icy when a mysterious “death chill” descends upon the city. This time, Paul Rudd leads a motley crew of Ghostbusters to confront the frosty adversary.

The “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” movie premiered in November 2021 and was directed by Jason Reitman, the son of Ivan Reitman, the original director of “Ghostbusters.” The narrative revolves around a single mom who relocates with her two children to a small town in Oklahoma, uncovering their grandfather’s hidden legacy and their link to the Ghostbusters.

“Afterlife” featured an ensemble cast comprising of Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, and Mckenna Grace, all of whom were newcomers to the franchise. Returning to reprise their iconic roles were original stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, and Sigourney Weaver. The screenplay for the “Afterlife” reboot was conceived by Jason Reitman, working in collaboration with Gil Kenan and Aykroyd, while Ivan Reitman served as the producer.

The forthcoming film is being directed by Kenan. Reitman hinted at the production of the sequel through an Instagram post captured at the legendary “Ghostbusters” firehouse, featuring Kenan in the frame. This behind-the-scenes photo was taken by “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” cinematographer Eric Steelberg.

“It’s truly an honor to pick up the proton pack and step behind the camera for the next chapter of the Spengler family saga,” commented Kenan upon his appointment as director. “I just wish I could go back to 1984 and tell the kid in the sixth row of the Mann Valley West that one day he was going to get to direct a ‘Ghostbusters’ film.”

Serving as the fifth movie in the franchise, the upcoming edition arrives after “Ghostbusters” in 1984, “Ghostbusters II” in 1989, the female-led “Ghostbusters” in 2016, and “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” in 2021.

Sony has scheduled the film’s release for March 29, and the trailer is available to view below. Trust me, you don’t want to miss it!
