In a recent interview, MSNBC’s raised an intriguing question about the new House Speaker, Mike Johnson (R-La.). Psaki wondered how Johnson’s deeply devout religious beliefs align with his unwavering dedication to former President , someone notorious for his scandalous personal life and controversial actions, such as multiple marriages, paying hush money to a porn star, and making derogatory remarks about women. As a former White House press secretary under Biden, Psaki found it perplexing that Johnson, who claims to derive his worldview from the Bible, vehemently supported Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election.
Psaki humorously asked, “Which passage in the Bible convinced Johnson to become one of the main architects of Trump’s election challenge? Did God whisper in his ear, instructing him to disregard the Constitution and disenfranchise millions of voters?” She pointed out that Johnson’s stance on LGBTQ+ and abortion rights, fiercely opposing them, suggests a vision for a less democratic and less tolerant country.
Psaki’s remarks certainly point to the disparity between Johnson’s religious convictions and his political affiliations, highlighting the complexities and contradictions within his beliefs.
