The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office is currently handling the case of Matthew Perry, known for his role in the TV show “Friends.” An autopsy is pending, as stated in the online records from the agency.
According to a source from law enforcement, there is no suspicion of foul play, but the incident is still under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department Robbery-Homicide Division.
The Los Angeles Fire Department received a 911 call reporting a water rescue emergency on Saturday at 4:07 p.m. The LAPD arrived at 4:10 p.m. and soon categorized the call as a death investigation.
Law enforcement sources mentioned that Perry, aged 54, was found unresponsive in his hot tub.
At this time, no cause of death has been entered in the coroner’s online form. It typically takes several weeks for complete autopsy and toxicology reports to be available.
Perry’s family, including his parents John Bennett Perry and Suzanne Morrison, as well as his step-father Keith Morrison, were seen at his home on the night of the incident.
A statement released by Perry’s family to People magazine expressed their deep sorrow over the loss of their beloved son and brother. They highlighted his positive impact on the world as an actor and a friend and appreciated the overwhelming support and love received.

Perry was known for his openness about his struggles, particularly with addiction. In his memoir, “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing: A Memoir,” released in November 2022, he shared his recovery journey and commitment to helping others.
During an interview on the “Q With Tom Power” podcast, Perry emphasized his desire to be remembered as someone who lived well, loved well, and always sought to help people.
Due to his personal battles with addiction, Perry admitted that he couldn’t bring himself to watch “Friends,” the iconic show in which he starred alongside Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer, and Matt LeBlanc from 1994 to 2004.
As of now, the co-stars of “Friends” have not publicly commented on Perry’s passing.
