Mira Sorvino’s Epic Comeback: Crushing ‘Celebrity Jeopardy!’ After Devastating Defeat on ‘DWTS’

Actress Mira Sorvino experienced a rollercoaster week, starting with an unexpected exit from Dancing With the Stars, followed by a triumphant win on an episode of Celebrity Jeopardy!.

In Celebrity Jeopardy!, Sorvino took a bold bet and joined an exclusive club by securing the victory. This came just one day after being voted off DWTS. Let’s take a closer look at Sorvino’s eventful week.

Dancing With the Stars

In Tuesday’s DWTS episode, the theme was Most Memorable Year for the remaining 10 celebrity dancers. Sorvino chose 2004, the year her daughter Mattea was born. Mattea, who is also a dancer, joined Sorvino and her partner Gleb Savchenko for a contemporary routine set to Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time.”

Their performance received a score of 22 out of 30, placing them eighth out of 10. However, fan votes were factored in during the elimination process. When it was time to announce the elimination, Sorvino was saddened to hear her name.

She tearfully expressed, “It’s been incredible. It’s been lots of dreams come true and I’m very grateful.”

Celebrity Jeopardy!

Sorvino participated in Celebrity Jeopardy! alongside actor Adam Rodriguez and NFL Network personality Peter Schrager. During her interview, Sorvino mentioned using the Jeopardy! game app for practice, but she opted for the free version, which was constantly interrupted by ads.

Host Alex Jennings assured her that the actual show also has commercial breaks, lightening the mood. Later, Jennings revealed that Sorvino had been a Jeopardy! clue nine times. She became only the second Oscar winner to appear on Celebrity Jeopardy!, following Jodie Foster.

Sorvino replied, “That’s daunting company. That’s cool.”

During the Final Jeopardy round, Sorvino had a $400 lead over Schrager with a total of $12,200. The category was Tween Lit, and all three contestants correctly answered, “Who is Judy Blume?”

Schrager made a significant wager, raising his total from $11,800 to $19,000. In order to secure the win, Sorvino needed a substantial bet and answered correctly. She wagered almost all of her amount, leaving $200, and finished with $24,200 — more than $5,000 ahead of Schrager.

Jennings announced, “And now there are two people in the world who have a Celebrity Jeopardy! win and an Academy Award: Jodie Foster and Mira Sorvino. Congratulations.”

Sorvino competed for the UN Voluntary Trust Fund for Victims of Trafficking in Persons, which supports organizations aiding victims and survivors of human trafficking worldwide.

Viewers were thrilled by Sorvino’s comeback, and she moves on to the semi-finals for a chance to win $1 million for her chosen charity.

Dancing With the Stars airs on Tuesdays, and Celebrity Jeopardy! airs on Wednesdays on ABC.
