Kevin Byard, the talented safety for the Tennessee Titans, has expressed his gratitude to the organization and fans through a heartfelt statement. While he may not have performed at his best early in the season, Byard possesses the skills necessary to bolster the secondary of the Philadelphia Eagles. Hailing from Philly, he excels at stopping the run and intercepting passes. With a remarkable track record of 27 interceptions, 63 passes defensed, and 674 tackles in 120 games over eight seasons, Byard is a valuable asset to any team.
Standing at 30 years old, Byard is one of only two players in the NFL, alongside Jordan Poyer, with over 600 tackles and 20 interceptions since 2017. Moreover, his 27 picks rank second in the league, just behind Xavien Howard. Byard, who leads all safeties with 59 passes defensed since 2017, brings an exceptional skill set to his new team.
In joining forces with Reed Blankenship, who is currently nursing an injury, Byard will form a formidable safety duo on the back end of Sean Desai’s defense at Middle Tennessee State.
Prior to the trade, the Eagles’ safety lineup lacked versatility and playmaking following the departure of Chauncey Gardner-Johnson. However, general manager Howie Roseman swiftly addressed this issue by acquiring Byard, a potential game-changer who fills the void. This move comes after the Eagles secured star receiver A.J. Brown from the Titans during the 2022 draft.
This trade, executed by the Titans, signifies their status as sellers ahead of the Oct. 31 deadline. With only six draft picks, three of which are in the seventh round, Tennessee’s general manager, Ran Carthon, is in need of replenishing the team’s resources. It is possible that the Titans will continue to trade away assets in the upcoming week.
