After completing its major phone launches for 2023, Samsung is now focusing on the highly anticipated Galaxy S24 lineup. Over the past few weeks, rumors have revealed some interesting details about the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra, while leaked renders have given us a glimpse of their designs.
While the Galaxy S24 lineup is not expected to undergo any major design changes, one noticeable difference will likely be the flat frames on the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+. Otherwise, the rest of the design is rumored to be similar to the Galaxy S23 series, with the Galaxy S24 Ultra looking almost identical to its predecessor.
However, recent leaks have shown a minor tweak that Samsung has made to the Galaxy S24 Ultra speaker grille. Instead of the pill-shaped holes found on current Galaxy flagships, the speaker grille on the Galaxy S24 Ultra will reportedly be a long rectangular strip.
An Insignificant Change that Won’t Impact the User Experience
Longtime Samsung fans may recall the similar design for the speaker opening on the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+, which were the company’s first flagship phones with stereo speakers. However, this design characteristic was not continued with subsequent flagships, including the Galaxy Note 9 that launched six months later.
If the latest rumor holds true, the speaker grille design from the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ could be making a comeback with the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Although it is a minor change that wouldn’t impact the audio quality, it may not appeal to everyone from an aesthetic standpoint. However, the bottom side of a phone is not typically visible, so it’s unlikely to be a major concern for users after the initial usage period.
Of course, this is all speculation at this point, and any conclusions should be reserved until the actual phone is unveiled. It remains to be seen whether the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ will also feature a similar treatment for their speaker grilles. Fortunately, Samsung is expected to reveal all the answers in January when it unveils the Galaxy S24 lineup.
