Space Perspective recently introduced their latest innovation for stratospheric tourism: the “Space Spa.” Designed to be a part of their Spaceship Neptune capsule, this unique restroom offers passengers a luxurious and serene experience during their high-altitude flights.
Spaceship Neptune, transported to the Earth’s atmosphere by a massive balloon, is a pressurized capsule that guarantees a more comfortable journey compared to similar suborbital rocket rides provided by Blue Origin and Virgin Galactic.
The Space Spa, located within the Space Lounge of the eight-passenger capsule, serves as a personal retreat for passengers during their Spaceship Neptune flights. According to company representatives, it is designed to create an ambiance that is reminiscent of a spa rather than a typical aircraft environment.
Jane Poynter, the founder and co-CEO of Space Perspective, addressed a common concern among potential passengers regarding the availability of restroom facilities during the six-hour spaceflight. She clarified that there is indeed a restroom available on Spaceship Neptune and explained that the company’s focus on providing a beautifully designed and functional restroom contributes to the unique experience they aim to offer.
Dan Window, who oversees the design aspects of Space Perspective alongside Isabella Trani, shared their approach to designing the Space Spa. They aimed to create a soft and inviting atmosphere that complements the contrasting colors visible through the two windows. The use of soft lighting, soothing soundscapes, and the inclusion of plants help create a calming environment and discourage reflections on the windows. Furthermore, the design incorporates practical elements such as easy-to-clean surfaces and features that control sound and odor.
The Space Spa within Spaceship Neptune offers passengers a moment of solitude and retreat. As described by Trani, it is a welcoming space without sharp edges, contributing to its comforting ambience. The design prioritizes cleanliness and incorporates elements that promote sound and odor control.
It’s important to note that Spaceship Neptune offers more than just the Space Spa. Passengers can expect world-class food and beverage options, plush seating, and a range of amenities, including personalized headphones, Wi-Fi, and specialized amenity kits.
With over 1,600 tickets sold, amounting to approximately $200 million in sales, Space Perspective has exceeded ticket sales of any other space tourism venture. They plan to commence commercial flights in late 2024.
