The Philadelphia Phillies are on the verge of reaching another World Series, following a dominant 6-1 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks in Game 5. This game also witnessed Kyle Schwarber enter the record books with a historic postseason performance.
With this win, the Phillies take a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven National League Championship Series (NLCS).
The Phillies have been crushing home runs throughout the postseason, led by their star leadoff hitter, Kyle Schwarber, who sets the tone for the team on a nightly basis.
After scoring an early run in the top of the first inning, Schwarber delivered a colossal home run in the top of the sixth, extending Philadelphia’s lead to 2-0.
In a scene that has become all too familiar for opposing fans, the 30-year-old Schwarber launched a 461-footer to right center field, solidifying his place in history.
Schwarber’s home run, his 11th of the NLCS, puts him at the top of the all-time leaderboard, surpassing the legendary Albert Pujols.
This is not the only record Schwarber has broken. He also holds the record for most left-handed postseason home runs with 20, making him the fifth player to reach that milestone and the fastest to do so, according to ESPN.
