Los Angeles Rams cornerback Derion Kendrick arrested for concealed weapon possession
Late Sunday night, following the Rams’ 26-9 victory over the Arizona Cardinals, Derion Kendrick, 23, was arrested by the Los Angeles Police Department’s Hollywood Division officers at approximately 2 a.m. He was found carrying a concealed weapon. Kendrick was later booked and released, according to Los Angeles County jail records.
In addition to the concealed weapon, police allegedly discovered marijuana in Kendrick’s vehicle during a traffic stop, as reported by TMZ and CBS 2.
Rams coach Sean McVay addressed the arrest during a press conference on Monday. While he expressed concern for Kendrick, McVay withheld extensive comments until the team gathers more information.
“I don’t want to rush to judgment without having all the facts,” emphasized McVay during the video conference. “I genuinely care about our players and want to support them in making the right decisions and avoiding such situations.
However, I understand that mistakes happen. I’ve made my fair share. So, it’s crucial for us to educate our players on how to avoid these situations and to fully comprehend the complexities before forming opinions or passing judgment.”
This isn’t the first time Kendrick has encountered legal issues. In March 2021, he was arrested in his hometown of Rock Hill, South Carolina, after being found asleep in a car with a gun on his lap, as reported by the Los Angeles Times. Kendrick participated in a pretrial intervention program that ultimately resulted in the expungement of charges against him.
Kendrick, a sixth-round pick in the 2022 draft, has been a starter for the Rams in all six games of the current season.
