Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) sparked controversy once again as she made light of her infamous conspiracy theory involving Jewish space lasers amidst the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas militants.
Greene shared a 2022 Wall Street Journal video on Israel’s experimental laser-beam defense against missiles, which was originally posted by far-right commentator Jack Posobiec.
In a now-deleted 2018 Facebook post, Greene wildly speculated that a space laser, allegedly connected to the Rothschilds, a Jewish banking family often mentioned in antisemitic conspiracy theories, was responsible for a massive wildfire in California. These unfounded claims, along with her other controversial statements, resulted in Greene losing her committee assignments in 2021 when Democrats controlled the House of Representatives.
Greene’s recent remarks seem to be her attempt at making a joke while perhaps expressing support for Israel.
Following the massacre of Israeli civilians by Hamas militants on Oct. 7 and the subsequent hostage situation involving more than 150 people, Israel has carried out retaliatory strikes on the Gaza Strip. The conflict has resulted in thousands of casualties on both sides, and Palestinians are facing a severe humanitarian crisis with orders to evacuate while food and supplies from Israel have been cut off.
According to the video, Israel is exploring the potential of using its “Iron Beam” laser as a cost-effective alternative to enhance its Iron Dome missile defense system.
