Historian Yuval Noah Harari on the Brutal Crimes Committed by Hamas
Renowned historian Yuval Noah Harari, author of the groundbreaking book “Sapiens,” offers his insights on the recent acts of terrorism perpetrated by Hamas.
Israel has recently suffered an event reminiscent of the catastrophic 9/11 attack. Entire communities have been ruthlessly massacred, leaving families devastated. Among the victims, my own aunt and uncle, who reside in Kibbutz Be’eri, narrowly escaped the clutches of terrorist brutality. Unfortunately, many of those close to me have received the gravest news of their lives.
Three abominable truths surround this despicable act of violence: Firstly, Hamas intentionally targets innocent civilians. Secondly, the victims were subjected to unspeakable acts of torture and executed in the most horrific manners that even the most demented terrorists could conceive. And thirdly, Hamas not only proudly flaunts these atrocities but ensures their wide dissemination.
Why would Hamas engage in such monstrous acts? Simply put, they wage an unscrupulous war on our very humanity. Similar to ISIS, Hamas resorts to unspeakable barbarism to terrify multitudes and sow the seeds of animosity and violence. By doing so, Hamas is committing an egregious crime against humanity. They do not merely seek to end human lives; their ultimate goal is to obliterate our faith in humanity itself, thus eradicating our own humanity.
Now, a vicious cycle of violence threatens to consume the entire region, leaving millions of Palestinians and Israelis in its destructive wake.
However, Hamas underestimates the resilience of the people of Israel. With the support of true allies such as President Joe Biden, we will triumph over the terror and animosity propagated by Hamas. Together, we will rebuild our nation and restore our unwavering trust in the goodness of fellow humans. We remain steadfast in our commitment to Israel’s founding principles: domestic democracy and global harmony.
