A 32-year-old man from Long Beach has been apprehended for allegedly supplying drugs that caused the overdose of five individuals. The suspect, Daniel Giannattasio, was taken into custody on October 6 after the Long Beach Police Department executed a search warrant at a residence on Walnut Avenue.
During the search, law enforcement officers discovered narcotics believed to be intended for sale, along with an AR-15 lower receiver, a pistol, and multiple firearm magazines. Initially, Giannattasio was charged with possession for sale of psilocybin mushrooms, but due to the county’s zero-bail system, he was subsequently released.
The search warrant was the result of an ongoing investigation into the overdose incidents that took place at around 2:50 a.m. on September 24 in the 800 block of Grand Avenue. Emergency medical personnel discovered three males and two females who had overdosed. With the exception of one female, all victims were transported to hospitals in stable condition.
According to the authorities, there is strong evidence linking Giannattasio to the five overdoses on September 24.
Individuals with any information pertaining to the overdoses are urged to contact the LBPD Drug Investigation Section at 562-570-7125. Those who wish to remain anonymous can provide tips by calling Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
