Fullerton College Guard Assaulted: 3 Teens Arrested, 1 Allegedly Swinging Ax – Orange County Register

Police arrest three individuals in a brutal and unprovoked attack on a security guard at Fullerton College on the early morning of Friday, October 13. The incident escalated when one of the teenagers retrieved an ax from his backpack and swung it at the security guards who rushed to assist.

The security guard, aged 53, discovered the trio, consisting of two 18-year-olds and a 17-year-old, sitting on a bench in the central quad of the college during his patrol on Friday morning. The guard, suspecting a medical emergency, approached the group to render aid, but was met with immediate aggression, according to the Fullerton police.

As per the police statement, the assailants punched, kicked, stomped on the guard’s head and attempted to gouge his eye. Despite the violence, the guard managed to call for backup during the attack.

Upon the arrival of additional security guards, one of the teenagers pulled out the ax from his backpack and brandished it at the guards, although he did not succeed in inflicting any injuries, the police added.

During the confrontation, the guards successfully restrained one of the teenagers, while the other two took off running towards the north end of the campus. Fullerton police officers promptly arrived and apprehended the remaining individuals on foot.

All three perpetrators were arrested, with the 17-year-old being taken to Orange County Juvenile Hall, while the two 18-year-olds were booked into Fullerton City Jail. Their residency was listed as Fullerton, but it was confirmed that none of them were Fullerton College students, according to Kai Stearns, a spokesperson for the North Orange County Community College District. The security guard, who sustained injuries to his face, was transported to a local hospital for treatment, though his injuries were not life-threatening, Fullerton police reported.

Stearns further stated that the guard has since been released from the hospital and is currently recovering at home with his family. Despite the incident, the college campus remained open for regular classes on Friday, with Stearns assuring that there is no ongoing threat to students or staff at the college.

“The safety and well-being of our students, staff, and community are of utmost importance to us,” Stearns affirmed. “We commend the officers for their swift action in responding to this incident.”
