The Desert Hot Springs Police Department has announced the receipt of a $107,000 grant. This grant will be used to support ongoing enforcement and education programs, with the aim of reducing the number of serious injuries and deaths on the city’s roads.
In a statement, Police Chief Jim Henson expressed his commitment to public safety in the community. He stated, “With this funding, we can enhance our efforts to make our roads safer for everyone. Specifically, we will focus on critical areas such as distracted driving, impaired driving, and speeding.”
The grant will financially support enforcement operations that target drivers who use their cellphones while driving, engage in behavior that endangers pedestrians and cyclists, drive above the speed limit, ignore traffic signals, and make illegal turns or lane changes.
In addition, the police department plans to conduct more DUI checkpoints and patrols to apprehend impaired drivers. They will also organize community presentations to raise awareness of traffic safety issues. Collaboration with neighboring enforcement agencies will be sought, and funding will be allocated for officer training and recertification.
The $107,000 grant was obtained from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
