An Iowa television news anchor had a “secret final fling” with a mystery man just 10 days before vanishing nearly three decades ago, as revealed by a private investigator.
Steve Ridge, a cold-case sleuth, has been diligently investigating the disappearance of Jodi Huisentruit, a news anchor for KIMT-TV in Mason City, Iowa, who went missing on June 27, 1995.
Huisentruit, who was officially declared dead in 2001, confided in a colleague on that fateful morning that she had overslept and was running late for work.
“Through my diligent investigation, I uncovered that Jodi had a highly confidential ‘final fling’ with a man she met just 10 days before her disappearance,” shared Ridge in an exclusive interview with The US Sun.
Ridge managed to track down the unidentified lover, who had been cleared by the police years ago after initially being considered a person of interest.
According to Ridge, Huisentruit had attracted strong admirers, and he believes jealousy may have played a role in her murder. The newfound love interest may have infuriated other suitors.
On the morning of her disappearance, the police conducted a welfare check at Huisentruit’s home. They discovered her belongings, such as a woman’s red shoe and a bent car key, scattered near her red Mazda Miata, which was parked outside.
During their investigation, the police interviewed neighbors who reported hearing screams, indicating a possible struggle, as shared by Ridge, who revealed previously undisclosed information that was known only to law enforcement.
Ridge also divulged that Huisentruit’s love interest was a 27-year-old man from out of state.
According to Ridge, they met at a bar and instantly hit it off. He added that the couple spoke regularly, with Huisentruit often initiating the calls.
Ridge had the opportunity to meet the man, who showed him around the Mason City home where he had stayed during their relationship.
“That home was the last place Jodi visited on a ‘date’ before disappearing,” revealed Ridge in his interview with The US Sun.
Five days before she vanished, Huisentruit and her beau enjoyed drinks on the back deck, overlooking a lake.
The man recounted to Ridge that they shared an immediate attraction and bond.
The private investigator believed that both Huisentruit and her lover were aware that their relationship could provoke jealousy from others.
Ridge firmly stated, “I am certain that his quickly blossoming relationship with Jodi played a central role in her abduction days later. This was not a random act of violence or the actions of an unknown stalker.”
The Post has reached out to the Mason City Police Department regarding this case.
Just last month, Ridge doubled the reward to $50,000 in hopes of obtaining information that could lead to the discovery of Huisentruit’s remains.
“Money can be a powerful incentive to motivate someone who is otherwise reluctant to come forward,” Ridge stated in an interview with Des Moines outlet KCCI. He added, “Time is of the essence, and we need to breathe new life into this cold case.”
