Food trucks continue to dominate the streets, serving up a variety of cuisines to locals at markets, outdoor events, and around the Capitol. In this edition of our ongoing series on food trucks and their operators, we had the pleasure of chatting with Matt Ruth, the owner and operator of the popular DC’s Pizza & Catering Food Truck.
How did DC’s Pizza & Catering Food Truck come to be?
My uncle had been selling pizza slices from a tent at the Harriman Office Campus for many years. When he retired, I decided to carry on the tradition. After seeing the success of food trucks in other states, I thought about starting one myself. However, after researching the costs involved, I realized it was out of my reach. That’s when the idea of converting a school bus came to me, and I purchased a used one. With the help of some talented friends, we renovated the interior and got it ready for business. Originally, I intended to serve only the lunch crowd at Harriman, but we have since expanded to cater private events as well.
How would you describe DC’s Pizza’s culture?
At DC’s Pizza, our culture is all about simple yet delicious food at affordable prices.
What are the crowd favorites on your menu?
Without a doubt, our most popular items are our pizza slices, particularly the classic cheese and pepperoni. However, our meatball subs and mac n’ cheese also receive numerous requests, as they are frequently offered as specials.
How can people find you? Do you have regular stops?
You can find us at the Harriman State Office Campus from Monday to Friday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., starting from May until they kick us out.
