North Indian Canyon Drive at the wash, which was severely affected by Tropical Storm Hilary in August, has now reopened with two newly constructed temporary lanes.
Palm Springs Mayor Grace Garner stated, “This is a crucial route to our region’s only trauma center, Desert Regional Medical Center. We understand the significance of residents and visitors being able to access this essential roadway to get to the hospital, school, or work efficiently.”
Starting from 4 p.m. on Monday, motorists can now use the two available lanes, while the remaining road damage caused by the storm is being repaired. Palm Springs chief communications officer Amy Blaisdell confirmed this.
Tropical Storm Hilary brought heavy rainfall to the Coachella Valley on August 18, leading to flooding and damage on various roads, including Indian Canyon Drive, Date Palm Drive in Cathedral City, Interstate 10 off-ramps, and Avenue 44 in Indio, among others.
Furthermore, a new four-way stop has been installed at the intersection of Palm Springs Station Road. Blaisdell advised motorists to exercise caution when crossing the construction zone.
City Manager Scott Stiles expressed his gratitude towards the street crews, saying, “I am incredibly proud of our dedicated team for their hard work and resourcefulness in making this happen. They have put in extra hours and gone the extra mile.”
