New York State Police are currently on the lookout for a missing 9-year-old girl who may have been abducted on Saturday evening while camping with her friends and family at Moreau Lake State Park.
Charlotte Sena was last seen in the park on Saturday around 6:15 p.m. She went for a bike ride wearing an eye-catching orange tie-dye Pokémon shirt, dark blue pants, black Crocs, and a gray bike helmet. An Amber Alert issued on Sunday provides more details.
According to the Amber Alert, law enforcement suspects that the child may be in immediate danger of serious harm or even death.
The girl’s mother, Trisha Sena, described Charlotte as a “good kid” and “trusting” to the Albany Times Union.
“I just want my daughter back,” she pleaded.
During a Sunday news update, New York Governor Kathy Hochul (D) informed the press that Charlotte and her close friends were riding their bikes on Loop A in the park before sunset.
After accompanying her friends for a loop, Charlotte decided to go for one more ride on her own and intended to return to the campsite for dinner, as stated by Hochul.
Hochul revealed that Charlotte’s parents’ worst nightmare began when their daughter did not come back within the expected timeframe of 15 minutes. Consequently, they initiated a search with the assistance of other campers in the vicinity.
At around 6:45 p.m., Charlotte’s bike was found, according to Lt. Col. Richard Mazzone’s statement on Sunday.
Once approximately 30 minutes of searching had passed, Charlotte’s mother contacted 911 at 6:47 p.m. to report her daughter missing, Mazzone informed the reporters. Law enforcement decided to close the park and expanded the search efforts with the help of dogs, drones, and underwater rescue teams.
An Amber Alert was issued on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. after an extensive search had been conducted, leading authorities to believe that it was highly probable that the 9-year-old had been abducted.
According to Hochul, who described Charlotte’s parents as “distraught,” the missing girl is in the fourth grade and was recently elected as a class officer for her student council.
“Hearts are broken here today in New York,” expressed Hochul. “Hopefully, there will be a reunion. Hopefully, there will be a family that has been traumatized but reunited.”
New York State Police are urging the public to assist in the search for the 9-year-old by contacting 518-457-6811 or emailing [email protected] with any relevant information.
