The Democrats wanted to avoid criticism for prioritizing financial assistance to Ukraine over the functioning of US agencies and the payment of 2 million service members and 1.5 million federal workers, as reported by the New York Times. White House officials have expressed their support for the House’s proposal, especially because it did not involve significant cuts to domestic programs, according to the Post. Senate Democrats have informed the Times that they anticipate a vote to be held early in the evening.
