SACRAMENTO — Governor Gavin Newsom expresses his heartfelt sentiments following the demise of U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein:
“Dianne Feinstein was an extraordinary individual – a commanding, pioneering U.S. Senator; an early advocate for gun control; a stalwart leader in times of turmoil and confusion. Yet, to me, she was not just a respected public figure, but also a cherished friend, a lifelong mentor, and an exemplary role model for not just myself, but also for my wife and daughters, on what it truly means to be a dynamic, influential leader.
“She was an indomitable political force who shattered barriers and surpassed expectations. Despite her achievements, she never wavered in her belief in the power of political collaboration. Moreover, she was a fierce advocate—for her beloved city, state, and country. With every victory, she etched her name into the annals of history. However, her legacy goes beyond being the first woman to hold a certain political position. It lies in the monumental impact she had on California and the United States, leveraging her power for the greater good. That is how she should be remembered.
“In terms of strength, gravitas, and determination, nobody equaled Dianne Feinstein. The passing of this extraordinary individual deeply saddens both Jennifer and me, and we will grieve alongside her family during this challenging time.”
As a mark of respect to Senator Feinstein, the Governor has decreed that state flags be flown at half-staff.
