We were first introduced to the uniquely innovative JackRabbit electric scoot/moto in 2018. After a few years, an updated version was released, and now a bigger, more powerful, and more capable “mini electric motorbike” has hit the market.
The original model featured a large rear wheel and a smaller front wheel, with a compact frame housing a seat, handlebar, stem, fork, and foot pegs. Its rear-hub motor allowed riders to reach speeds of up to 18 mph (29 km/h) and the 172.8-Wh battery provided a range of around 13 miles (21 km) per charge.
The second generation, also crowdfunded on Kickstarter, maintained the same length of 4 ft (1.2 m). However, it sported a more cohesive design with 20-inch wheels both in the front and back, and the foot pegs were repositioned between the wheels. It weighed slightly more at 23 lb (10.4 kg), had a top speed of 20 mph (32 km/h), but a reduced range of 12 miles (19 km) per charge.
Now known as the JackRabbit OG, the original model is still available for purchase at just under $1,000. Joining it is the bigger sibling, the JackRabbit XG, which is being sold directly by the company instead of through crowdfunding.
“The XG is specifically designed for powersports and adventure enthusiasts who desire more power, longer range, and an extended frame to enhance their experience on the racetrack, during outdoor adventures, or simply on their everyday commute,” stated the JackRabbit in a blog post.
This scoot/bike hybrid is constructed with a 6061-T6 aluminum alloy frame measuring 53 inches in length (134 cm), presenting a more classic bike appearance with the chunky top tube housing two battery slots. These UL-certified batteries are capable of covering more than 20 miles between charges and riders can carry optional spares in their backpacks for easy swapping while on the go.
