HANGZHOU, China—Skateboarder Margielyn Didal, hampered by a surgically-repaired left ankle, yielded her title in women’s street after multiple falls in the 19th Asian Games.
Didal, who underwent surgery 11 months ago due to a foot injury, scored 23.39 points in her first run and 12.84 in the second, placing last among eight competitors.
The 24-year-old former Asian Games champion fell three times during her trick attempts, eliminating her from contention at the Qiantang Roller Sports Centre.
“My injury has healed, but I still feel tightness around my foot, possibly due to the installed metal plates,” said Didal.
After twisting her ankle again on her third trick, the Tokyo Olympian remained on the ground momentarily, massaged her foot, and limped to the sidelines.

China’s Chi Chenxi won the event with a combined score of 242.62 points in two runs and five tricks, followed by compatriot Zeng Wenhui with 236.61 points. Japan’s Miyu Ito took home the bronze with 213.00 points.
Didal dislocated and fractured her ankle during the Red Bull Stake Levels in Brazil last year.
It took her some time to return to skateboarding after the injury, but she made her comeback at the Asian Games, where she made a name for herself five years earlier.
Didal’s gold medal added to the “women power” displayed by the Philippine team in the 2018 Asian Games, which saw weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz and golfer Yuka Saso also claim individual golds, while Saso led the women’s golf team to victory alongside Bianca Pagdanganan and Lois Kaye Go
