Sept. 21 (UPI) — A Georgia dentist has achieved a remarkable feat by earning a Guinness World Records title for his astounding collection of 2,037 unique toothpaste tubes. Dr. Val Kolpakov, renowned for his dentistry practice in Alpharetta, has curated an extraordinary assortment that includes intriguing flavors such as wasabi and whiskey.
Spanning various countries like Japan, Korea, China, India, and Russia, Kolpakov’s toothpaste collection is a testament to his commitment to exploring the diverse oral care offerings available worldwide. As a dentist himself, he embarked on this endeavor in 2001 to expand his knowledge of the toothpaste market. However, it soon transformed into an enchanting hobby, prompting him to collect vintage toothpastes from different nations.
In an interview with Guinness World Records, Kolpakov shared, “I started my collection in 2001 to learn more as a dentist about all available toothpastes on the market. Soon I realized that this is a very interesting hobby and tried to collect some old toothpastes and tubes from other countries.”
Among the most unconventional toothpaste tubes showcased in his dental practice’s “mini museum” are three whiskey-flavored variants infused with the flavors of rye, scotch, and bourbon. Created by Don Poynter in the 1950s, these novelty toothpastes surprisingly contain 3% alcohol.
Additionally, Kolpakov’s collection boasts a wasabi-flavored toothpaste, although he has no intentions of testing its taste personally. “As you can imagine, it might not be for weak people,” he jokingly remarked.
Furthermore, the assortment includes remarkable additions like a tube of Doramad toothpaste featuring the radioactive compound thorium and a tube of Brenner’s toothpaste specially crafted as a prop for the television series Prison Break.
Kolpakov emphasized, “It’s lots of fun collecting, and I’m always looking for new toothpastes that come out. There are different trends, like right now there are lots of toothpastes they’re making with charcoal.”
