Sept. 15 (UPI) — A ravenous black bear recently invaded a Florida family’s garage, boldly rummaged through their freezer, and indulged in a feast consisting of pizza, burger patties, bread, and even vegan ice cream.
The unsuspecting homeowner, Konrad Umpenhour, admitted that he had forgotten to close the garage door at his family’s residence in North Naples. When he tried to use a smartphone app to shut the door, he received an error message indicating an obstruction.
Curious, Umpenhour investigated the situation and discovered that not only was the freezer door wide open, but there was also a large mess on the floor, with food scattered about. Among the scattered items was a pint of vegan ice cream.
“It’s actually coffee-flavored ice cream with boba in it, and it’s from Trader Joe’s. It’s super tasty — apparently really good,” Umpenhour exclaims in an interview with WBBH-TV.
Umpenhour and his parents decided to go through the security camera footage and were astounded to find video evidence of the culprit — a bear — crossing their neighbor’s driveway before entering their garage.
“The hairs on the back of my neck stood up. We were violated by a bear,” exclaimed Kurt Umpenhour, the father of the household.
Interestingly, a similar incident occurred this week in Sierra Madre, Calif., where Chelsea Mapanda returned home to find a bear that had entered through a side door and promptly raided her kitchen refrigerator. In this case, the bear enjoyed a meal of fresh honey and mangoes.
